Leading Positions on the Russian Market
MMK maintains leading positions on the Russian rolled steel market. In 2011 the Company accounted for 18% of all rolled steel production in Russia.
Starting from 2005, MMK's has been shipping more products to the Russian market than internationally. Overall, in the period of 1996-2011 MMK's shipments to the domestic market have grown 3.4 times. In 2011 domestic shipments reached 7.2 m tons, or 67% of the total sales. This was possible largely due to the introduction of high-margin products that meet domestic demand, including products that replaced imports.
Russian and CIS Markets
The Urals and the Volga Region remain the Russian destinations most important for MMK in terms of sales accounting for 69% of the total domestic sales. This sales structure is determined by the concentration of major sectoral consumers in these regions and has remained unchanged in recent years. Another major market for MMK is the central Russia, which accounts for 10% of total domestic shipments, while another 6% going to Siberia.
MMK's key sectoral customers in Russia are the pipe- making and the machine-building industries, including automotive plants, which accounted for 48% of the company's 2011 domestic sales./p>
Internationally MMK maintains its focus on the markets of the Middle East, EU, South-East Asia and Far East. In 2011 MMK exported 3.5 m tons of rolled steel.
