MMK: COUNTERING THE PANDEMIC
MMK Board Chairman Viktor Rashnikov: ‘Today, more than ever, people need real help and support.’
Practically fr om the very first days when Russia faced the coronavirus threat, Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMK, directed the necessary means to implement emergency measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and provide anti-viral protection for employees of the plant and its subsidiaries, as well as to support municipal organisations in Magnitogorsk and the city's most vulnerable citizens.
Yesterday, Mr Rashnikov decided to allocate additional funds to expand the programme of financing antiviral and social support activities in the city. The total amount of financial assistance provided, according to Mr Rashnikov, will be about RUB 500 million. A set of priority measures aimed at supporting healthcare institutions and medical workers, teachers and schoolchildren, pre-school institutions, as well as the most vulnerable groups of citizens in Magnitogorsk has been approved.
- Funds for the city’s medical institutions have already been used to purchase ventilators and place orders for the supply of bedside monitors, infusion systems and perfusors. The funds will also be used to cover additional payments to medical personnel working in high-risk areas.
- Tablets and laptops will be purchased for students from low-income families, which is especially relevant in the current distance-learning format. Laptops will also be provided to young teachers in Magnitogorsk schools to carry out remote lessons.
- Special disinfecting lamps will be purchased and installed for kindergartens in Magnitogorsk, wh ere children's groups are still operating today. Contactless thermometers will be delivered to orphanages and charities in the city.
- For pensioners who live on their own, as well as low-income residents of the city, certified food packages and sets of personal protective equipment are already being put together and delivered to homes across the city.
Commenting on the large-scale financial assistance provided by MMK, Mr Rashnikov said: "I believe that today, more than ever, people need support and help. That is why we took the only viable decision in this situation – to help Magnitogorsk and its residents in this difficult time. I am confident that by joining together in our efforts, we will overcome this difficult situation."
