MMK: COUNTERING THE PANDEMIC
Masks for Magnitogorsk doctors
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) and Sinosteel are long-standing partners. The Chinese company has taken part in MMK's most important industrial and environmental projects – the reconstruction of the sulfur recovery unit No. 2 in the sinter shop and the construction of a new sinter plant No. 5. The implementation of these projects solved several issues, from improving the quality of products and reducing costs to improving working conditions and environmental conditions at the plant and in the city. Sinosteel, which is one of the leading engineering companies in China, is also involved in a promising project for the complete reconstruction of MMK's coke production.
"Currently, the new coronavirus pandemic is widespread across the world," Lu Pengcheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sinosteel, said in a letter to Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMK, "At this difficult moment, we are fighting the pandemic together with you!"
Viktor Rashnikov expressed gratitude to Sinosteel and personally to Mr Lu Pengcheng for their support.
"For many years, we have been joined by an effective partnership," Viktor Rashnikov stressed, "We appreciate the readiness of our Chinese colleagues to help Magnitogorsk residents overcome the threat of this dangerous infection.”
Since it is the doctors who are on the front line of the fight against coronavirus, 30 thousand masks were transferred to the employees of the medical centre ANO "TSKMSCH".
"We are one of the largest medical institutions in the southern Urals. Almost two thousand employees work in the structural divisions of the medical unit," said the Director of ANO "TSKMSCH" Alexey Kovalenko. "Thanks to this gift, we will be able to provide medical workers with masks for several weeks. Many thanks to the managers of MMK for this gift, MMK has once again proved itself to be a socially oriented enterprise that cares not only about its employees, but also about other citizens. And this is manifested not only in the Company’s actions in taking care of medical workers, but also in buying laptops and tablets for children in low-income families, and in helping provide food packages to pensioners."
Earlier, MMK donated personal protective equipment to the Magnitogorsk ambulance station.
